Alicia Vikander stars in an upcoming HBO miniseries based on the acclaimed 1996 French film Irma Vep.

The series will feature Alicia, 32, in a role loosely based on that played by Hong Kong actress Maggie Cheung in the film.

While Maggie portrays a fictional version of herself, Alicia’s character changed her name to Mira for the miniseries.

In both versions, the main character is an actress who moved to France from another country to star in a remake of the 1915 silent film Les Vampires.

The seven-hour silent film starred French actress Musidora as Irma Vep, whose name is an anagram of Vampire.

In Olivier’s film, The Vampires is remade by a has-been French director who plays Maggie as Irma and falls in love with her.

She not only becomes an object of lust for the director played by Jean-Pierre Léaud but also the costume designer played by Nathalie Richard.

In real life, Maggie and Olivier married in 1998, two years after the film’s release, but in 2001 they divorced.

While Maggie’s film version is from China, Alicia’s version of Mira will be from America and come to France amid issues in her professional and romantic life.

Irma is a thief – and while playing her, the main lady of the film and miniseries becomes familiar with the dangers of overplaying the Method.

Alicia, who has been married to X-Men idol Michael Fassbender since 2017, is also executive producer of the new version.

Apparently, she’s used to remaking mini-series movies like she does the same for the Alfred Hitchcock classic Dial M For Murder.

Last month, it emerged via The Hollywood Reporter that she is preparing a new version of the film with The Wolf Of Wall Street screenwriter Terence Winter.

English writer Frederick Knott wrote both the original 1952 play and the screenplay for the Hitchcock adaptation, which starred Grace Kelly.
