BGMEA chief writes to Bangladeshi Ambassador to France and French Ambassador to Dhaka
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has called for action to remove derogatory comments about âMade in Bangladeshâ in a recently released French film.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan wrote to Bangladeshi Ambassador to France Kazi Imtiaz Hossain and French Ambassador to Dhaka Jean-Marin SCHUH to request their demarches in this regard.
In a letter to the French Ambassador on Wednesday, the President of BGMEA said: âThe BGMEA, on behalf of the entire clothing fraternity, is exerting a more vehement protest through you and we believe you will need to communicate the same thing to the French authority concerned, to take immediate action and remove the said declaration from said film. “
The BGMEA also wrote to the Ambassador on August 7 regarding derogatory comments about âMade in Bangladeshâ in the French film âLast Mercenaryâ directed by David Charon.
âMade in Bangladeshâ is more than just pride for our nation, it is a mission statement, with the ultimate goal of bringing Bangladesh to the world.
During Bangladesh’s 50 years of independence, which were won by the sacrifice of millions of people, the RMG sector has become one of the main engines of our economy and its course over the past 3 decades has also been commendable among other economies, said the head of BGMEA.

We previously addressed this concern to the CEO of Netflix and the director of the film, but to our extreme disappointment we received no response from them. The film continues to be on Netflix’s playlist and that too contains the contested lines, “he said.
The BGMEA condemned this and extended its hand again by further urging the French government and its film fraternity to take immediate action to suppress the statement in question.
In a separate letter to the Bangladeshi Ambassador, the President of BGMEA said the comments were totally wrong as Bangladesh does not produce bulletproof vests and the clothing we have been producing at all for the past four decades. have won the trust of buyers. and consumers all over the world thanks to its quality standard and competitive price.
“Therefore, this is an irrational misleading statement,” said the head of BGMEA.
The BGMEA, on behalf of the entire garment industry, furthermore pushed for a more vehement protest through the Bangladeshi Ambassador to the concerned French authorities, to take immediate action and withdraw the declaration in question of said film.
