French actor Gaspard Ulliel, who was due to appear in Marvel’s new Moon Knight show later this year, has died following a skiing accident in France.

He was 37 years old.

According to local police, the accident happened in Savoie, in the French Alps, after he apparently hit another skier at a crossing point on the slopes.

He was rushed to hospital in Grenoble with a head injury but later died, his family and agent said.

Local investigators are currently investigating the incident, but did not release further details.

Alongside his upcoming appearance as the Midnight Man on Marvel’s new show Moon Knight, the trailer of which only dropped on Tuesday, Ulliel was also the face of Chanel’s Bleu perfume in France.

As one of France’s most beloved actors, he also starred in 2007’s Hannibal Rising and as the title character in Yves St Laurent’s 2014 biopic Saint Laurent – a film that became a contender at the Festival of Cannes.

In 2017, he won the César for best actor, after his turn in It’s only the end of the world, against Marion Cotillard and Léa Seydoux – 12 years after winning the trophy for the most promising actor.

His other projects include The Dancer, Eva and a staging of Entertaining Mr Sloane.

It comes just days after mountain rescue responded to another fatal accident in a neighbor area, in which a five-year-old British girl was killed on the tracks.
