Aat least some of them might think Malayalam cinema has come a long way. But this is not the case. He is still in a pitiful state as he spends between 5 and 8 crore rupees and 2.5 hours to find the father of a child conceived in an illicit relationship. Kuttanadan Blog was the first film written and directed by Sethu, one of the Sachi-Sethu duos who entered the industry as a co-writer. Sachi had hit the nail on the head with ‘Anarkali’, his first directorial project. The Mammootty ‘Kuttanadan Blog’ star was scripted by Sethu after films like Cousins, Achayans and Salam Kashmir. Now I can only say that this one is better than them and the directing is better than the script.
In one line, an expat talks about Kuttanad after returning to his homeland. He uses a blog to tell this story because it is popular among expats. But, the story is the old wine in a new bottle. Mammootty plays Hari Kaimal, who distributes wholesale goodness by visiting many homes in a BMW car. Although his work is not mentioned in the film, he is a role model for all young people in Kuttanad. Hari is always at the service of young people as he helps them get free Wi-Fi, teaches them to love and to run away. He is also a ladies’ man. The film has nothing to write about at least a single page blog.
Anyone can understand with simple logic that the film has a typical formula of a fitted script and a super star. There are only a few good humorous scenes at the start. The film progresses through the expatriate couples played by Sunny Wayne and Ananya who read the blog while enjoying a coffee or a juice. These two roles would only have been included because the film has a blog in its name. Likewise, the film has no connection with Kuttanad except for the greenery shown in its title song. It can be argued that the film is about Kuttanad because every scene has backwaters, a channel or fields. Hari in Blog is a mammootty version of Puramanayil Chandran performed by Mohanlal in ‘Mampazhakkalam’. While this is of no use, they could have been released for 10 years.
Mammootty and many young actors filled the movie. He has a great row of actors who include Lalu Alex, Raai Laxmi, Shamna Kasim, Anu Sithara, Swasthika, Gregory, Nedumudi Venu and Jude Antony Joseph. Although everyone’s presence is created in all settings, only Mammooty has the major role to play. Shamna Kasim played the role of a policeman Shamna, who is reminiscent of a dancer rather than a policeman in her makeup and body language, only made the film monotonous.
When Pradeep Nair’s visuals reached the norm, Sreenath Sivasankaran’s music was average.
